Technique and Materials

Annie Bouyer works exclusively on goat or lamb parchment, gilded with 22-karat gold leaf, and paints her illuminations with natural pigments (mineral, plant, and animal-based) mixed with egg-white tempera. She prepares her own glues and tempera paints according to traditional recipes, following the methods of medieval illuminators. Her approach combines technical precision and artistic sensitivity with a freer, more modern personal touch, all while preserving the medieval atmosphere.
