The Art Library

Founded in 1983 on the initiative of the Association du Centre d'Arts Plastiques d'Angoulême (ACAPA) with support from the Ministry of Culture, the Art Library is dedicated to making art accessible to everyone in their living, working, educational, and social spaces.

The collection now includes over 1,000 works, primarily prints, multiples, and originals, covering the major artistic movements from the 1970s to the present and representing a range of contemporary techniques. It features major international artists such as Gérard Fromanger, Francis Bacon, Andy Goldsworthy, Louise Bourgeois, and Sonia Delaunay, as well as numerous artists from the Charente region and comic book creators like Fred le Chevalier, Céline Guichard, Aude Samama, and Marie Deschamps.

The Art Library operates on the model of a library but for art:

• Loans of works to individuals, businesses, schools, and professionals.
• Self-guided or guided tours, including themed mini-exhibitions that change every two months.
• Educational workshops for schoolchildren, designed to help them discover the artworks and develop their observation skills, creativity, and verbal expression.

The Art Library hosts regular exhibitions and participates in local cultural events. The Art Library’s works can also be loaned to various cultural, educational, and recreational venues.
