La Coulée Douce

La Coulée Douce is an installation that explores issues surrounding community life and water management.

It draws inspiration from the principles of the compluvium (a roof opening) and the impluvium (a water collection basin)—Etruscan inventions adopted by the Romans.
This water-lily-shaped kiosk-like structure invites visitors to rest while collecting rainwater to irrigate small gardens (flower boxes and vegetable patches).
It is an open-air well around which people enjoy taking a break, chatting, snacking, and seeking shelter from both the sun and the rain.

Its foundation-free design, using local and sustainable materials, ensures it has a low environmental impact.

This installation was designed and built by Simon Dardet and Thomas Diaz (Atelier Bacca) in June 2025 as part of the call for projects launched by GrandAngoulême for the Metropolitan Trail.
