Angoulême Municipal Archives

The Angoulême Municipal Archives is one of the city’s oldest departments. Its collections date back to the 14th century, to the time when King Charles V reestablished the town, and have grown over the past seven centuries.

Under the authority of the Mayor, the Municipal Archives are tasked with:

• Collect the records of the various departments of the city of Angoulême and expand the collection through donations, bequests, and acquisitions.
• Preserve these records to ensure the best possible conditions for safeguarding this rich heritage.
• Organize the records to make them accessible to the public by creating finding aids.
• Promote and facilitate access to the Archives both in the reading room and remotely.
• Promote the archival collections through temporary exhibitions, publications, and events, and raise public awareness of local history.
