Angoulême Museum

The Angoulême Museum, formerly the Angoulême Museum of Fine Arts, is a public museum located right next to Saint-Pierre Cathedral in the heart of the city’s historic center. Designated a “Musée de France,” it houses significant archaeological, ethnographic, and art collections.

Two of these collections, of international significance—the African and Oceanic Arts Collection and the Archaeology Collection—highlight, respectively, the diversity of cultures around the world and the prehistoric era, from dinosaurs to the Middle Ages. The Western Art Collection features a selection of paintings and sculptures, as well as ceramics dating from the 16th to the 20th century.

Through four major chronological periods, discover the rich geology of the Charente, prehistoric cultures, practices arising from the shift to a sedentary lifestyle, and evidence of life in the Middle Ages.

Maghreb - Africa - Oceania
The Angoulême Museum houses one of France’s most significant collections of African and Oceanic art. A selection of major works offers insight into the use of everyday objects, masks, and ritual sculptures.

Fine Arts and Decorative
Arts From the evocation of a collector’s salon to the output of the region’s artistic workshops, you can enjoy a selection of paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and weapons from the 16th to the early 20th century.

The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and lectures.
