Thorgal: The Lives of a Hero

"Thorgal: The Lives of a Hero" is a major exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Thorgal saga, tracing the history of the hero and his mythical universe, from his debut in 1977 to contemporary series such as *The Worlds of Thorgal*, "Thorgal Saga," and "The Youth of Thorgal." It features more than 150 original panels, sketches, paintings, and artifacts centered on the saga’s key themes: Viking mythology, science fiction, and travel. Visitors will be able to explore immersive spaces evoking Yggdrasil or the Entremonde, and select panels from the upcoming *Thorgal Saga* will be on exclusive display.

The exhibition is organized in partnership with the Center of Comics EC1 in Łódź (Poland) and highlights 21 creators, including Yann, Fred Vignaux, and Robin Recht, paying tribute to the legendary artist Grzegorz Rosiński and the writer Jean Van Hamme.

Thorgal is a Belgian comic book hero who blends heroic fantasy, Norse mythology, and science fiction, created by Jean Van Hamme and Grzegorz Rosiński in 1977. The story follows Thorgal Aegirsson, a child of the stars raised by Vikings, who longs for a peaceful life despite the dangers and adventures that beset him. The saga comprises more than 75 volumes, including story arcs such as the Cycle of the Land of Qâ, the Cycle of Shaïgan the Merciless, and spin-off series such as Thorgal Saga and The Worlds of Thorgal.

This exhibition offers an immersive journey into the world of Thorgal, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process, the evolution of the characters, and the series’ enduring legacy. It is aimed at both longtime fans and new readers alike, and celebrates Thorgal’s influence on European comics.
