Edgar Pom
About
In Champniers, Edgar Pom brings apples to life with a resolutely artisanal approach. Behind this young Charente-based brand, Sonia Beinchet creates drinks that combine her attachment to the local terroir with her passion for the world of cider.
Her project pays particular tribute to her childhood memories of the apple juice made by her grandfather, a farmer in the Montbronnais region.
History and origins
Sonia Beinchet spent ten years working in apple processing for the confectionery industry in Angers. On her return to Charente, she wanted to launch her own venture centred on apples and her family memories.
She trained in apple processing in Normandy, at the Le Robillard agricultural college, in 2023. Her inspiration also stems from her interest in Scotland and its beer and cider culture.
The venture subsequently moved to Champniers, where Edgar Pom is now recognised as one of the town’s local businesses.
The expertise
The brand’s first cider, Pom Korn, is made from several varieties of cider apples. For her first batch, Sonia Beinchet worked in particular with five varieties from Normandy, complemented by Charente eating apples from Garat.
The production process involves a double fermentation, first in vats and then in the bottle, utilising the natural action of the yeasts present in the apples. The product is then refined through several stages of filtration.
This process results in a delicately sparkling cider, low in sugar and with an alcohol content of around 4% vol.
The range
- Pom Korn - artisanal cider. Edgar Pom’s flagship product. Delicately sparkling and slightly alcoholic, it features a low-sugar profile. It can be enjoyed as an aperitif, served with dessert or used in cocktails.
- After Pom - apple juice. An apple juice produced as part of the Edgar Pom project. It naturally complements the range and offers a chance to discover the work centred on apples in an alcohol-free version.
- Limited editions. The launch of Pom Korn has also given rise to some original variations, notably a juniper berry cider and a smoked cider.
The signature product
Pom Korn is the product you should try first. Served well chilled, it is the perfect aperitif. Its low sugar content also makes it ideal for pairing with apple-based desserts or savoury dishes.
It can also be used in cocktails to add a fruity, sparkling touch.
The visitor experience
Edgar Pom is involved in local life and takes part in various events dedicated to local produce and aperitifs. The brand has notably been showcased at events in Angoulême and at the markets in Champniers.
The project also includes an ‘apéro box’, containing a bottle of cider, a bottle of apple juice and sweetcorn for popcorn.
