Domaine de Jacquiot
About
In Plassac-Rouffiac, in the south of the Charente, the Domaine de Jacquiot carries on a family tradition of expertise in the production of Charente wines. The estate is particularly well known for its Cognacs and Pineaux des Charentes, but also for an original blackcurrant liqueur, the recipe for which has been passed down through several generations.
History and origins
The Domaine de Jacquiot, situated in Plassac-Rouffiac within the Charente wine-growing region, is run by Jean-Yves and Anne Chaignaud.
The recipe for the blackcurrant and raspberry liqueur is presented as a tradition passed down through several generations.
Expertise
The Domaine de Jacquiot combines the region’s iconic Cognac and Pineau des Charentes with a more distinctive expertise in fruit liqueurs.
Whilst the estate is recognised as a producer of Cognac and Pineau des Charentes, its blackcurrant liqueur is nevertheless one of its most original signature products: its family recipe is jealously guarded and several of its products have been awarded medals.
The products
- Cognac. The vineyard is situated in the Fins Bois appellation. Produced using the traditional Charente double-distillation method, the estate offers a renowned range including Fine Cognac, VSOP and a Cognac XO Distinction (which notably won a gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris).
- Pineau des Charentes. The estate also produces Pineau des Charentes, another great speciality of the Charente vineyards.
- Fruit Creams and Liqueurs. Introduced in the 1960s to diversify the estate’s activities, its fruit cultivation is renowned, particularly for its artisanal Crème de Cassis. The estate also produces liqueurs made from raspberries, wild blackberries, vineyard peaches and wild strawberries.
The signature product
The blackcurrant liqueur is a true gourmet delight from the Domaine de Jacquiot, having won several medals. Its family recipe, passed down through the generations, combines an exceptional concentration of fruit with a very slow maceration process to achieve perfect balance in a liqueur that can be enjoyed both as an aperitif and as an accompaniment to dessert.
It can be served in a cocktail, but also has its place in the kitchen, particularly poured as a coulis over vanilla ice cream.
The visitor experience
It is not possible to arrange a standard tourist visit (such as a guided tour of the facilities or cellars), as the estate does not have any facilities for organised tours.
However, it is possible to purchase bottles directly on site. It is recommended that you ring ahead before visiting to ensure someone is available to welcome you.
Where can you find the products?
Directly at the estate, despite the lack of a permanent shop: Domaine de Jacquiot, Chez Jacquiot, 16250 Plassac-Rouffiac.
Key points
In the heart of the Charente wine region, Domaine de Jacquiot offers an intriguing insight into local expertise that extends beyond Cognac and Pineau: its family-made blackcurrant liqueur adds a delicious and original touch to this Plassac-Rouffiac establishment.
